This market predicts whether Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be observed physically shaking hands during the 2026 FIFA World Cup window through July 20, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. If a qualifying handshake is confirmed, the market will resolve to Yes. Otherwise, it will resolve to No. For this market to resolve to Yes, both Messi and Ronaldo must actively participate in the tournament, and their respective national teams, Argentina and Portugal, must face each other in an official fixture. The physical hand contact must occur publicly on the pitch or within the bench area, which includes any pre-match or post-match interactions on the field or sideline. Handshakes occurring in locker rooms, tunnels, or any other non-public areas do not qualify, nor do non-physical interactions such as waving or nodding from a distance. The market will resolve to No if either player fails to participate due to injury or any other reason, if either team is eliminated before they face each other, if the tournament is cancelled or postponed beyond August 2, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET, or if no qualifying handshake is officially confirmed by the deadline. Resolution will be based primarily on official match footage and broadcast video. A consensus of credible reporting from major international sports media outlets may also be used to confirm the outcome.
